Conrad Hughes (MA, PhD, EdD) is Campus and Secondary Principal at the International School of Geneva, La Grande Boissiere.We will journey through the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous landscape of the 21st Century to find a path that will lead to individual, collective and public good.
Biography
Conrad Hughes (MA, PhD, EdD) is Campus and Secondary Principal at the International School of Geneva, La Grande Boissiere. Conrad, who is also a member of the advisory board for the University of the People and a senior fellow of UNESCO's International Bureau of Education, teaches philosophy. His most recent books are Understanding Prejudice and Education: The Challenge for Future Generations (2017, Routledge) and Educating for the 21st Century: Seven Global Challenges (2018, Brill).
Prof Fazal Rizvi
Fazal Rizvi is Professor of Global Studies in Education at the University of Melbourne Australia, as well as an Emeritus Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States.My talk will be based on research I have conducted over the past few years in elite schools in a number of countries. Some of this research is reported in a book, Class Choreographies: Elite Schools and Globalisation (Palgrave 2017). Each of these schools is aware of the privileges its students enjoy and is committed therefore to such programs as CAS, service learning, community action and so on, along with the notion of international communication and understanding. In this talk, I will discuss how students participation in these activities could be utlized to develop a greater sense of ethical responsibilities towards those who are less privileged. This I will argue demands teaching the virtues of relationality and critical self-reflection.
Biography
Fazal Rizvi is Professor of Global Studies in Education at the University of Melbourne Australia, as well as an Emeritus Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the United States. He has written extensively on issues of identity and culture in transnational contexts, globalization and education policy and Australia-Asia relations. A collection of his essays is published in: Encountering Education in the Global: Selected Writings of Fazal Rizvi (Routledge 2014). His most recent books include a co-authored volume, Class Choreographies: Elite Schools and Globalization (Palgrave 2017) and a co-edited volume, Transnational Perspectives on Democracy, Citizenship, Human Rights and Peace Education(Bloomsbury 2019). Professor Rizvi is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Social Sciences and a former Editor of the journal, Discourse: Studies in Cultural Politics of Education, and past President of the Australian Association of Research in Education.

This session will take a look at trends in the global international schools market and their demand drivers as well as touching on some of the current values and hot topics in international education such as wellbeing, governance and inclusion.
Biography
Nalini joined ISC Research in 2014 having lived and worked in Dubai since 2003. She became Head of Middle East and India Research before relocating to the UK in 2016. Here she took on the role of Schools Relations Manager working with UK independent schools and investors towards brand and branch expansion overseas. Nalini continues to work with the UK independent schools and investors and now also leads ISC's Research of international schools in the UK and mainland Europe as Head of Europe Research. Nalini has lived and worked in the UK, Dubai, Italy and Denmark and has a strong network in the world of international education. She can regularly be found on the road visiting schools across the region and is a frequent presenter at global conferences on international education.
